Brasil venceu o Japão ontem (70x66) e se classificou para as quartas de finais. Vanessa Gonçalves: 23-8-3 e Isabela Ramona 23-11-3-4.
Porém hoje perdeu para Austrália (69x51). Vanessa: 2-5-2 e Isabela: 8-4-3-1 (bem anuladas).
A Austrália perdeu apenas para a Espanha (que está invicta e é a próxima adversária da seleção).

Aliás, a Alessandra que jogou um destes nacionais ridículos disse certa vez (um ou dois anos atrás e isso ela ja tinha seus 40)
que o nível estava ridículo ... nunca tinha participado de jogos tão ruins.


Bom que podemos ver alguma renovação ... A estrela lá Iziane ... Adrianinha, Palmira, aquela negra gorda pilão total .. Silvia ?

Das jogadoras da atual seleção, a Damiris tem muito potencial, mas está chegando no limite da idade pra evoluir. Espero que não estagne.
A Clarissa tem totais condições de ser uma boa role player no nível internacional. Muito forte e raçuda. Rebound machine aqui no Brasil rsrs.
A Érika é top player mundial.
E a Iziane se não fosse o comportamento anti-time poderia contribuir muito mais. Engraçado que ela tem um projeto muito bacana no Maranhão.

E só de sair a Hortência já é um grande avanço!

ARCAIN BACKS BRAZILIAN STAR DUO TO MAKE SENIOR SPLASH

KLAIPEDA (FIBA U19 World Championship for Women) - With four wins from their first five games at the FIBA U19 World Championship for Women and a ticket for the Quarter-Finals already in their hands, Brazil are certainly well-placed to possibly strike for the podium.

Central to their success has been the contribution of dynamic forward Vanessa Goncalves and captain Isabela Ramona, who have both spearheaded their campaign.

And, according to head coach Janeth Arcain, the duo have a big future in a national team vest and that could even mean forcing themselves into the reckoning for the senior team at the FIBA World Championship for Women in 15 months.

"It depends on the coach of course, but both players do at least have a chance to be there in Turkey next year," she suggested.

"It is actually a very important tournament and we must have a good team and to get back to playing our best basketball.

"We were third or fourth in the FIBA Women Ranking and now we are six or seventh, so we have to work to come back and we can start to do this in Turkey.

"Of course they both have a much better chance to be in the team for the next Olympics in 2016," continued Arcain.

"I keep telling them, they have to practice hard because a lot of players in Brazil want to be where they are right now.

"Also, you just never know what can happen with young players - will they still play and practice hard?

"It is up to them to find the way and they have to have only one goal in their minds."

As an iconic figure of women's basketball in Brazil, Arcain knows what it is like to be a talented young player being tipped to make it and to some extent, knows what it is like to walk in their shoes.

"When I see both players, I remember when I was a young player," admitted the coach.

"When Vanessa hit a shot in one of the games recently, she came to me and we gave each other a high-five and I played like this too.

"Vanessa can not only play inside and outside, it's really nice to see when she plays with this kind of fun.

"Sometimes she asks if she can shoot the ball from certain positions, but I tell her to just go out and play.

"In fact, I tell all of my girls to relax when they are playing and not to think about the other team, but just to have fun playing basketball - this is all my team need to do."

To understand what the players might be going through is one thing, but Arcain admitted that sometimes she feels she is walking a tight-rope as coach in trying to ensure her players don't try to measure up against her own accomplishments - or feel intimidated by her presence.

"Sometimes I feel that my players might feel intimidated, but only if I am not careful with my words," she explained.

"I always make sure that I think about what I am going to say.

"Anyway, I always try not to say any bad words, but instead, to show them they can do it, that they can achieve what they want.

"I try only to show what I learned and to teach them, although 12 players all think differently."

Not that Arcain has all the answers.

Rather notably, she has been almost an ever-present courtside in Klaipeda, not only coaching in her own team's games, but watching almost all of the others too.

"I still have a lot to learn and improve," she confessed.

"But because I love basketball and coaching is what I want to do, this is why I sit and watch all of the games."

Brazil are currently 4-1 in Group E of the Eighth-Final Round and complete the second phase of the competition with a tough match-up against the still unbeaten Spain on Wednesday.

Ramona terminou como cestinha do campeonato e fez as seguintes médias:
18.2 ppg - 6.7 rpg - 3.8 apg - 44.6% 2pts. Dos noves jogos que jogou, em seis ela fez mais de 20 pontos.

Vanessa Gonçalves também foi muito bem: 11.1 ppg e 7.1 rpg (caiu de rendimento no fim).

Boa campanha e dá um pouco de esperança. Precisávamos revelar mais jogadoras.

Para mim, o problema maior não é nem revelar uma ou outra, isso a gente sempre conseguiu.
